Walter Bressert, who is credited with introducing cycles into the futures markets, developed an interest in cycles in the late 1960s. At that time, he extensively researched available materials, including volumes of information published by the Foundation for the Study of Cycles and Jim Hurst’s classic book on cycles, “The Profit Magic of Stock Transaction Timing”. Additionally, he attended several of Jim’s workshops. Walter, being a trader himself, applied the concepts from Hurst’s book and workshops, as well as those from the Foundation. However, he realized that something crucial was missing: while there was ample theoretical knowledge on how to utilize cycles, there was a lack of quantification or structure that could provide him with the confidence needed to trade the markets cyclically.
